Boat staple rails, commonly referred to as staples, are U-shaped stainless steel grab rails typically installed on a vessel’s swim platform or transom. They provide essential safety, stability and secure handholds when boarding from a dock or dinghy, while also acting as a barrier at the stern. At Firefish Fabrication, we design and fabricate custom marine staples as part of our specialist marine stainless steel fabrication work in Auckland, tailoring each solution to suit the vessel, its layout and how it is used on the water.

Our staples are fabricated from 316 marine-grade stainless steel, chosen for its superior corrosion resistance and durability in harsh marine environments. Staples can be fixed or removable, often installed into flush-mounted deck sockets so they can be taken out when not required. While standard configurations exist, many of our staples are custom fabricated to suit specific boat dimensions, load requirements and deck arrangements. We work across a wide range of vessels, from private launches and sailing yachts to commercial and custom-built boats, ensuring every staple is engineered for correct load handling and a clean, integrated finish.

Beyond safety, staples often form the foundation for mounting and supporting onboard equipment. Because no two boats are the same, our marine staples can be customised to incorporate rod holders, tender stowage, bait boards, BBQ mounts, swing-down ladders or other deck accessories.
